Dead Reckoning . . . Navigation at the most basic level without the benefit of electronic aids. This usually began with plotting a course on a aeronautical chart, measuring the distance and determining the time to fly to the destination based on expected airspeed of the aircraft. En route, the pilot must correct for winds, barometric Altitude and various compass errors such as Deviation and Variation.
E6B Calculator . . . Handheld device for figuring Time, Speed and Distance and other problems. It is basically a circular slide rule.
X-Country (Cross Country) . . . The FAA considers a Cross Country flight as any flight 25 nautical miles away from the originating airport.
Venturi Tube . . . A device located on the outside of an aircraft that generates a suction pressure that can be used to drive gyro instruments.
